Tips and Pointers for Basketball Dribbling

Basketball dribbling is one of the most important skills a player can have. All of the basketball greats have been excellent dribblers. But basketball dribbling is not a natural- born ability. Becoming a good basketball dribbler requires hard work and the correct training, in addition to powerful arms and legs. In order to be a good dribbler yourself, you should keep in mind the most common basketball dribbling mistakes and do your best to avoid them.

Basketball Dribbling - Most Common Mistakes

One of the most common mistakes in basketball dribbling is when a player tries to handle the ball with his palm. Instead of the palm however, the fingers should be used for basketball dribbling. Of course, this means that you must have powerful hands and fingers so that you can dribble the ball with sufficient force. So, the first step when training to dribble is to strengthen your fingers. You must also be able to dribble well with both hands to keep your opponent from snagging the ball away from you easily.

Another common basketball dribbling mistake is dribbling the ball too close to your opponent. You should always use the hand that is furthest from the opposing player when you are dribbling. This makes it harder for them to reach the ball and snatch it from you. For really excellent basketball dribbling, it is a good idea to be able to use different defenses unexpectedly.

Another common mistake is focusing too much on the ball and losing sight of what is going on around you. Whenever you are dribbling, it is important to be aware of what is happening on the court and not to forget that defensive state of mind.

Basketball Dribbling - Useful Tips

- Keep your head up and watch the rest of the court while dribbling. - Always protect the ball while you have it. - When you dribble, let the ball bounce hard off the floor. - Practice some take offs when trying basketball dribbling moves. - Be able to dribble with both hands.

With hard work and practice, you can always improve your basketball dribbling. So if you aren't yet the dribbler you desire to be, take some time out to practice and keep these pointers in mind. You won't regret it as your basketball dribbling skills improve.
